New year is coming!
There will be many big party with dance floor or a stage all around the world to celebrate New Year's Day on Jan. 1.
But do you know how January got its name?
And that's an important part to why Jan 1 is celebrated as the first day of the new year.
January is named for the Roman God Janus. Janus was depicted as having 2 faces: one looking to the past and one looking to the future. He was, among other things, the god of beginnings and endings.
As such, he would logically be the god of the new year as well.
